Rugby in Africa: An Emerging Sport with Great Potential
While rugby remains underdeveloped across much of the African continent, it is experiencing steady growth in several countries, driven by a youth eager to discover new sports.
To date, South Africa is the only African nation to have established itself as a global rugby powerhouse, but the potential for expansion is significant elsewhere on the continent.
The sport is gaining traction in countries like Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, where new clubs, rugby academies, and local competitions are emerging.
A Need for Adequate Infrastructure
The development of rugby in Africa is often hampered by a lack of dedicated infrastructure. Many pitches are unsuitable or even non-existent, limiting opportunities for structured training and regular competition.
To address these challenges, two types of surfaces are particularly well suited:
Synthetic turf & Hybrid turf
NALOU SPORT supports and promotes this type of project by developing modern, certified rugby fields. This helps make rugby a real driver of education and sustainable development in sport.
